Administering the Y-BOCS

ABOUT THS COURSE:

This course will introduce the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), the gold-standard for assessing OCD severity. The training will walk clinicians through the process of administering the scale, providing guidance for each item and for scoring the scale. Clinicians will review appropriate clinical applications for the Y-BOCS, as well as limitations. The training will also review variations of the Y-BOCS, comparing and contrasting the utility of the scale with alternative assessment measures.

  • Participants will be able to identify appropriate clinical applications for the Y-BOCS.

  • Participants will be able to administer the Y-BOCS as a component of a thorough OCD assessment.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Ben Eckstein, LCSW is the owner and director of Bull City Anxiety & OCD Treatment Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  He specializes in the treatment of OCD, Anxiety, and OC-Related Disorders. In addition to his clinical work, Ben is a trainer, speaker, and author of the book Worrying is Optional. He serves as vice president of OCD North Carolina, the NC state affiliate of the International OCD Foundation.  

COURSE APPROVALS

Bull City Anxiety & OCD Treatment Center, provider #286, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 07/29/2025-07/29/2026. Social workers completing this course receive 1.0 clinical continuing education credits.

Course Interaction and System Requirements. This is an asynchronous, virtual training. Participants will view the training video through this website’s online training platform.

Course Completion & CE Information. To earn CE credit, participants must view the training in its entirety. Upon completion, participants will need to complete a post-test and course evaluation. Certificates of completion will be emailed upon completion of post-test and course evaluation.
